Kelly Gray of Virginia Beach, known to locals as the “eBay Bride,” is planning to walk down the aisle on April 19, 2009. She defrayed some of the costs of her wedding by posting the last bridesmaid’s spot on eBay last June. Quickly gaining national attention, the auction closed out at $5,700 with Diet Dr. Pepper and then doubling the donation to $10,000. This generous offer sparked vast interest and resulted in local Virginia Beach community involvement and donations that have exceeded more than Kelly and Karl could have ever wished for. In addition, she has had bridesmaids dresses, jewelry, tuxedos, flowers, cake, DJ services, hair and makeup, photography and wedding programs all donated by local vendors to help the financial burden of her upcoming special day.
