Bridal Wishlist Book Review: "The Wedding Book" by Mindy Weiss

Well. Here it is. Our first book review ever. I was so excited to review this book as Mindy Weiss is one of the wedding world's top planners.

"The Wedding Book" starts off with a quiz: What Kind of Bride Are You? Of course, I could not resist taking the quiz. Right on cue, out of four choices: Perfectionist, Dreamer, Rookie, and Non-Conformist, the quiz pegged me for the woman that I really am - A Perfectionist. Sad, but true. But there was help to better understand your bride type and your needs as a bride.

Overall, the book was a journey from engagement to post-wedding bliss. There are 29 chapter covering topics as it would naturally happen in the planning process. Topics range from setting your budget, how to pick the right place, guest lists, the different types of ceremonies. She also covers the typical information on photography/videography, menus, gift registries, pre-wedding parties, invites, flowers, cake, and favors. Weiss put the same care and attention to each section of this book as she does in her wedding planning. There was even a section on how to rent a port-a-potty. Is that not covering every base?? The only part that seemed out of place to me what the fact that "Choosing the Wedding Party" came after the section on Wedding Planning. For me, most women know exactly who is going to be in your wedding. You may not have picked all of your team, but you know who the major players will be.

The one section that was very different from many of the other wedding advice books is the detailed section on wedding dresses. The breakdown in this part of the book is phenomenal. She talks about silhouettes, colors and fabrics and lace... oh my, lace. I felt like an expert on wedding dresses after reading that section! Loved it. I also love the similar attention to the "Dressing the Men" section. A much needed section to help you to gently help your groom to choose a style that will really compliment your wedding style.

One of the things that I really loved about the book was the questions that appear throughout the book. Some of the questions are not the typical bride questions. For example, one bride asks how to politely tell her sister that the photographer that she wants to pay for does not have the style that they were looking for. Mindy's wonderful advice is to "gracefully bow out." Much agreed.

Mindy Weiss does not leave any wedding planning stone unturned in this informative book. She also includes checklists in the back to help keep you organized. If you have any questions about planning your wedding after reading this book, then you did not read it carefully. There is a wealth of wonderful information and some goodies that were unexpected. This book is a must buy for anyone planning their wedding.

Mindy is about to go on a book tour. Be sure to go and check her out. For more information, visit her web site.
